Chinese Export Outlook

In recent years, many have looked to China to be the locomotive of global growth. Thus, the better-than-expected readings in some of its key economic indicators have become part of the revival story for global economic growth.

However, the health of the Chinese economy – the world’s largest exporter – also depends on a favorable global economic environment. While the surge in Chinese exports in January suggests that Chinese exports are holding up despite the global headwinds, it is important to monitor ECRI’s Chinese Leading Exports Index for evidence of any sustained change to China’s export outlook.
