A Framework That Provides Clarity

During periods of “low visibility,” confusion reigns: for every indication of one trend, there seems to be a countertrend. The key is to glean from the collective wisdom of reliable leading indicators a clear signal that the economy is headed for a turn.

Weekly Leading Index Edges Up

A leading index of the U.S. economy edged up in the latest week, ..., a report showed on Friday.

The Economic Cycle Research Institute, an independent forecasting group, said its weekly leading index edged up to 133.7 in the week ended June 24 from a
downwardly revised 133.3 in the prior week.

The index's annualized growth rate, which smoothes out weekly fluctuations, was 0.8 percent compared to 0.2 percent in the prior week.

"The rise in the weekly leading index growth rate makes it clear that economic growth will remain firm in the second half of the year," said Anirvan
Banerji, director of research at ECRI.
